Do I have to pay tithes?

EXPLANATION OF TITHES COMPUTATIONS

TITHES = 10% (a tenth) of your increase (Your Net Income)

Leviticus 27:13 But if he will at all redeem it (His TITHES), then he shall add a fifth (20%)part thereof (of his Tithes) unto thy estimation.

Leviticus 27:31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.

REDEEM = to regain, keep, take back

FIFTH = one of 5 equal parts of something

THEREOF = of it or that, from that

A FIFTH = 20% of your Tithes

Example: If your increase (Net income) is $100.00, your Tithes (a tenth = 10%) would be $10.00.  If you redeem your Tithes, you are to add a fifth (20%) of your Tithes {not your Net Income} to it.

Let’s do the MATH:

(Net Income)         (A Tenth)             (Tithes)

$100.00            X       10%         =        $10.00

(Tithes)                    (A Fifth)              (Interest)

$10.00              X        20%         =        $ 2.00

YOUR TOTAL TITHES WOULD BE $12.00

Another way to calculate your Tithes if you redeem them is to multiply your NET Income by 12%, that is what you would owe including interest. Example: If your Net is $100.00, multiply it by 12%. $100.00 x 12% = $12.00

We must pay net, not gross. Some might wonder, “Why not the gross?” The reason is that, we pay what we have to offer. If I gross $900.00, yet net(bring home) $700.00, “What am I physically able to give the Lord as far as 10%?” How are we able to give the Lord something we don’t have? How can we give 10% of $900.00 when we don’t even have $900.00 in our pocket? We can’t. Therefore, we pay tithes of what we have.

1/10 or tenth = 10%, let’s continue with this scripture below.

Hebrews 7: 1-2
1. For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2. To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

((Father Abraham gave a tenth of all.))

Malachi 3:8-10
8. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

((When we refuse to pay God, we rob him. Ref. Exodus 20: 15))

10. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

((We shouldn’t pay tithes, just to receive a blessing. We should pay tithes because it’s commanded, and that by doing so, along with the other commandments, he’s going to eventually bless us with access to the Kingdom of God the Father. This is the blessing that will not depreciate, nor diminish. Let’s continue.))

Proverbs 3:5-10 (King James Version)
5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

((We must honour the Lord with the firstfruits of “all ” our increase. 10% of all))

10. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

((As far as us, we must give 10%. We must not forget to pay tithes on the money we get back from taxes, if any. The redeeming factor applies to the money from taxes as well, remember, “all thine increase” in Proverbs 3: 9))

(( As far as taxes, those that are working, when they get money back from paying taxes to the government that year, it’s part of the money they’ve made that the government took out throughout the year. So it’s the money we’ve made already, they’re just giving you some of it back. Whatever we get back, we should pay 10% of that. Yeah…God has giving us the freedom of choice to serve him or not. We individually have the choice to not steal, kill, and commit adultery, and bear false witness, ect. The Father don’t twist our arms, and say serve me. He laid his plan out for mankind to honour it or not. Freedom of choice. He laid his commandments out for mankind to keep them or not. The Father has not giving those who decide to serve him the option/choice to not keep his commandments fully. For instance, he hasn’t said this, “If we want to pay tithes of all our increase, we can, if not, it’s not gonna make any difference, whatever you feel like paying, it don’t matter, I want be mad at you.” No, it’s not commanded that we give all our tax refund check up for tithes, only 10%, yet the redeeming factor applies to the tax refund as well .))

((As far as the taxes, concerning those who are on aid, maybe not working at all. There’s many people getting back thousands of dollars, some up to 8, 9, or $10,000 back. The Lord said give 10% of all our increase, whether we work for it or not.))

Deuteronomy 14: 22
22. Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

((Here’s another scripture of Abram(Abraham) given tithes.))

Genesis 14:19-20
19. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20. And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

((He gave tithes of all. What about the preachers? Do they have to pay tithes? These next scriptures are pertaining to the Levites. The Levites were the priest of God. The priest of God back then were referred to as the heads of the church, elders, teachers, and leaders back then. Some modern terms for the heads of the church today would be: Minister, Preacher, Bishop, or Pastor. So these next scriptures applies to the heads of the churches today, concerning paying tithes.))

Numbers 18: 26
26. Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

((So, yeah…it’s permitted unto the Preachers, Pastors, ect. to receive inheritance or benefits from the tithes giving unto the church, yet it’s commanded that a tenth(10%) of what they receive supposed to be giving back to the Lord for their tithes. Let’s continue.))

Hebrews 7:4-5, 9
4. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

((Abraham again giving a tenth.))

5. And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

((Keep in mind, it’s a commandment, according to the law.))

9. And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

((Not only did they(Levi, the priest), received of the tithes, they also paid tithes. So…those who are setting in Levi’s seat as head, pastor, preacher, ect. should pay tithes as well, even if they’re not receiving money from tithes of the church, but working for their own keep.))

Until again,

Grace and Peace
